The club face a crucial decision regarding whether to appoint immediately or wait until summer when more attractive candidates become available, with Ole Gunnar Solskjær emerging as a strong contender to return on an interim basis.

The Norwegian remains popular among supporters following his previous spell in charge and has made clear his desire to manage United again, while Sir Jam Ratcliffe’s own rumoured candidate Gareth Southgate also features prominently in discussions alongside the likes of Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola.

There are even some surprise reports that PSG boss Luis Enrique, who guided the French champions to a treble last term, including their first Champions League triumph, has his eyes on the United hot seat.

Amidst the managerial merry-go-round, those within the club are also pondering recruitment this month with the winter window now open for business.

Whether it be for January or next summer, it is now boldy claimed that United have set their sights on Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer.

Man United ready 'blockbuster' Cole Palmer move to replace Bruno Fernandes

Indeed, according to Football Transfers today, Man United are ready to make a ‘blockbuster move’ for Palmer.

The Red Devils have held behind-the-scenes talks about putting together an offer for the England international, with FT sources confirming that the Blues are even considering cashing in on their star playmaker.

Palmer arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £40 million deal from Man City in the summer of 2023, and he has developed into one of the world’s top attacking midfield players since leaving the Etihad.

The 23-year-old has also established himself as Chelsea’s most influential attacker, even if his current campaign has been marred by injuries.

Chelsea are apparently open to selling Palmer despite his importance to their squad, and the west Londoners would consider offers for him — creating an unexpected opportunity for United to secure one of the Premier League’s best playmakers.

United have maintained a long-standing admiration of Palmer dating back to his time at City.

Uncertainty also continues surrounding the future of Fernandes, with the captain heavily linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League on multiple occasions during the past year.

Fresh speculation has emerged regarding his long-term future following Amorim’s departure too, given the former Sporting manager was his biggest supporter at the club.

Palmer would arrive at United as a ‘direct replacement’ for Fernandes if the midfielder departs. Furthermore, the Chelsea superstar appears open to the idea of leaving Chelsea, according to Football Transfers.

The £130,000-per-week forward bagged a sensational 18 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last term, firing Chelsea to a Conference League, Club World Cup triumph and Champions League qualification.

Palmer’s debut season at Chelsea was even more impressive, with the ex-City sensation bagging a superb 27 goals and 15 assists across 48 total outings that year.

He would be a fantastic signing for United, of course, but reports from late 2024 suggest Chelsea value him at an eye-watering £165 million.

Palmer is also on a very long-term contract, so INEOS will have to pull out all the stops here.
