da brwin: Brendan Rodgers is sure that Jordan Henderson has all of the attributes to succeed Steven Gerrard as Liverpool’s captain at the end of the season.

da poker: The current Kop skipper announced last week that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season when his contract expires, with a switch across the Atlantic Ocean to join LA Galaxy on an 18-month deal expected.

With Henderson vice-captain – a role he took from Daniel Agger over the summer – the 24-year-old is set to step up and take on Gerrard’s current role.

Although some have suggested that the ex-Sunderland star is not of the required quality to fill his current midfield partner’s boots, Rodgers is sure that his man has everything he needs to thrive with the armband:

“Yes [he is ready to lead the club]. It was one of the reasons I made him vice-captain.” He is quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“He has got no greater captain to learn from. That was the idea of putting him in that role and seeing Jordan being here for a number of years.”

Rodgers also believes that Henderson has been, and will continue to, learn from Gerrard:

“I think he saw Steven as a great example anyway before he was vice-captain, but certainly in that vice-captain’s role it would give him pole position in terms of learning from a great in how he behaves, how he works, on and off the field, so when that day came that Steven would move on, you have someone there who is a different sort of player of course, but someone who can then offer that wisdom and knowledge throughout his years here.

“That is something I know he is very keen on and he has been learning from Steven.”
